Get to Work: A Creative Virtual Retreat for 2024
This is now a self-paced workshop, and links to recorded videos will be emailed after purchase.
Are you feeling stuck or stagnant? Do you want to go deeper with your creativity? Are you looking for some time to dedicate to your making and creating?
Join a community of other creative souls as you deepen your artistic practice, learn more about yourself, and move your creative practice forward. Explore the power of words, images, and art materials as you experiment and play, reflect and create, all from the comfort of your home or studio. Engage in structured exploration of ideas and processes, as well as, sell-directed times of inquiry and contemplation.
This two-day, online workshop, is all about moving your creative practice forward and developing your own unique line of inquiry, so we all may be using different materials and different approaches, but this workshop is designed to prompt you into new directions and to spark new ideas and ways of working.
We will meet live through Zoom to come together as a creative community. Each day will be a full 6 hours, but will be structured to allow for whole group instruction and individual work, so that you are not staring at a screen all-day long. Please see the general schedule below. The workshop will be recorded for anyone who cannot make the scheduled time or who wants to revisit the class.
This is a pay-what-you-can retreat, so please select what you would like to pay below. Once you purchase the retreat, you will receive an automatic confirmation email. If you do not receive the email, please check your spam and junk folders, and make certain that you have added my email address to your address book to ensure that you receive future emails from me. I will then email you with the links to the recorded class.
The schedule for each day will be structured as follows:
10-11am — Whole Group Instruction
11-12am — Independent Work
12-1pm — Whole Group Instruction
1-2pm — Lunch
2-3pm — Whole Group Instruction
3-4pm — Independent Work
4-5pm — Whole Group Instruction and Sharing
Supplies Needed:
Though we may be pursuing our own ideas and using different materials, there will be a variety of activities and exercises designed to help us explore, experiment, and reflect. So having the following materials, in addition to the ones you wish to explore, will be useful.
A visual journal or sketchbook - A mixed media journal is a good choice since it has paper designed to withstand a wide variety of paints, but use whatever works for you. It does not need to be a new book.
Watercolor Paint - Watercolor
Variety of paint brushes
Scissors
Glue Stick - I like UHU, but if you’re using acrylic paint, acrylic medium is suitable
Markers, pens, and pencils - a variety of writing and drawing implements is good to have on hand
Papers - I like having a variety of loose papers to use, and I like to have tracing paper, drawing paper, and index cards on hand.
Collage materials - Having an assortment of items to glue into the journal is good, so try to find things that are personal. I love using movie tickets, mementos from travel, post cards, bottle labels, and other ephemera that I accumulate in day-to-day life.
Colored Paper - We’ll specifically work with some colored paper. Construction paper or colored card stock is good, but you can also use painted paper.
