Reflect: A New Year’s Virtual Art Retreat for 2025, Jan 11-12, 2025 11-6pm EST

from $40.00

Saturday, January 11, 2025 and Sunday January, 12, 2025, 11am - 6pm, EST

The New Year is a perfect time to reflect on the past year and take stock for the year to come.

You’re invited to spend a weekend making, creating, reflecting, and sharing from the comfort of your own home or studio. Explore words, images, and art materials as you reflect on your life, your art, and your ideas. Explore the things that are most important to you, and envision what the New Year can bring for you as we engage in structured exploration, independent inquiry, and quiet contemplation.

Join a community of other creative souls for this unique experience as you deepen your artistic practice, learn more about yourself, and look forward to what the future holds. Walk away feeling reconnected to yourself and your art.

We will meet live through Zoom to come together as a creative community. Each day will be a full 6 hours, but will be structured to allow for whole group instruction and individual work, so that you are not staring at a screen all-day long. Please see the general schedule below. The workshop will be recorded for anyone who cannot make the scheduled time or who wants to revisit the class.

This is a pay-what-you-can retreat, so please select what you would like to pay below. Once you purchase the retreat, you will receive an automatic confirmation email. If you do not receive the email, please check your spam and junk folders, and make certain that you have added my email address to your address book to ensure that you receive future emails from me. Approximately one week before the scheduled class time, I will email out a link to the Zoom Meeting that we use the day of the class.

Supplies Needed:

Though we may be pursuing our own ideas and using different materials, there will be a variety of activities and exercises designed to help us explore, experiment, and reflect. So having the following materials, in addition to the ones you wish to explore, will be useful.

  • A visual journal, sketchbook, or loose paper - A mixed media journal is a good choice since it has paper designed to withstand a wide variety of paints, but use whatever works for you. It does not need to be a new book. Or use a number of loose pieces of paper to make individual works of art.

  • Paint - Watercolor and acrylic will both work. I’ll be using watercolor paint and watercolor pencil

  • Mark making items - It’s always great to create interesting marks and textures with paint. I love using plastic mesh, bubble wrap, cardboard, string, and even my fingers to play with how I apply paint.

  • Variety of paint brushes

  • Scissors

  • Glue Stick - I like UHU, but if you’re using acrylic paint, acrylic medium is suitable

  • Markers, pens, and pencils - a variety of waterproof and water-soluble writing and drawing materials; paint markers are great to use

  • Papers - I like having a variety of loose papers to use in my journaling, and I always have tracing paper, drawing paper, and colored papers on hand.

  • Collage materials - We’ll be using an assortment of items to glue into the journal, but try to find things that are personal. I love using movie tickets, mementos from travel, post cards, bottle labels, and other ephemera that I accumulate in day-to-day life.

What you get:

  • 8 hours of live instruction through Zoom and 4 hours of independent work time over two-days

  • Access to recorded and archived videos to revisit anytime
