Sustaining the Magic: The Visual Journal 2
Sustaining the Magic: The Visual Journal 2
This is now a self-paced workshop, and links to recorded videos will be emailed after purchase.
All new session with all new content!
The visual journal is a place where true magic can develop, but we often need a bit of help and guidance so that we can maintain our work in the journal. Join me as we continue to dive deeply into a variety of new strategies and ideas for using the visual journal as a personal and artistic tool. We’ll explore new artmaking activities as we dig deep into the visual journal process.
This ongoing workshop focuses primarily on the process of using the visual journal and not so much on specific techniques. Though materials and techniques will be shared throughout the workshop, the focus will be on the variety of approaches that make the journal such personal work. The focus will be on going deeper with the journal and working in a very intentional way. It is a perfect follow to the Practicing Magic and Developing the Magic workshops, but as a stand alone workshop, it is suitable for anyone wanting to dive deeper into the visual journal and who has some artmaking experience.
This was originally a four part, online workshop that was part of a continuing series, and new ideas and techniques are shared in each, and though other classes are titled the same, they will each have different content.
This is a pay-what-you-can workshop, so please select what you would like to pay below. Once you pay, you will be emailed the links to the recorded videos. This will be a separate email from the order confirmation that you will receive immediately after purchase, and it may take several days to receive it.
Supplies Needed:
A visual journal or sketchbook - A mixed media journal is a good choice since it has paper designed to withstand a wide variety of paints.
Paint - Watercolor and acrylic will both work. I’ll be using watercolor paint and watercolor pencil
Mark making items - We’ll be exploring how we can create interesting marks and textures with paint. I love using plastic mesh, bubble wrap, cardboard, string, and even my fingers to play with how I apply paint.
Variety of paint brushes
Scissors
Glue Stick - I like UHU, but if you’re using acrylic paint, acrylic medium is suitable
Markers, pens, and pencils - a variety of waterproof and water-soluble writing and drawing materials; paint markers are great to use
Collage materials - We’ll be using an assortment of items to glue into the journal, but try to find things that are personal. I love using movie tickets, mementos from travel, post cards, bottle labels, and other ephemera that I accumulate in day-to-day Life.
